Time for a new vid!
So, I was scrolling through the crypto leaderboards the other day (as I often do), and I realised that it had been quite a while since I last covered Stellar.
I've seen Stellar a lot in the news lately and Stellar Development Foundation CEO Denelle Dixon has been all of the place too, so I decided it was about time for an update!
Stellar has one hell of a history. Jed McCaleb, one of its three co-founders, is also the co-founder of Ripple, and he actually created Stellar in 2014 after disagreements over Ripple's future with other Ripple execs. XLM consequently started off as a fork of XRP but eventually transitioned to its own consensus mechanism and architecture.
Like XRP, XLM is a ‘banker coin'. This is because Stellar seeks to integrate with and improve the existing financial system rather than replace it. This is a story we've seen many times before, but Stellar seems to be the only crypto project that has made significant progress on the payments front.
Besides being partnered with over a dozen banks around the world, Stellar has also gotten on the good side of a few governments, notably the Ukrainian government with whom they are developing a CBDC. Stellar also recently secured a serious MoneyGram partnership which could create an easy on-off ramp to crypto for basically everyone on the planet.
Call me crazy, but I think Stellar's MoneyGram partnership could be a game changer for the crypto industry, and it's just one of the many important updates I cover in today's video.
